My name is Janis or Jan or even Janny, and I’m a retired elementary school teacher. I promised myself that, when I retired, I would take up the sewing hobby I had let go of when I was teaching full-time.
The truth is, I was never a very good sewist, even though I made most of my clothes as a teenager. But honestly, I never had to fit anything in those days, and I think I just wasn’t very picky about the quality of my clothing at the time, either.
I’ve learned a great deal about sewing over the last five years. I find myself in the sewing room more often than not. Sewing is a hobby that has turned into a passion.
I have found a wealth of information and mentors on the internet to guide me, something that didn’t exist in my early life as a sewist. And I am so grateful to all those who are helping me along the way.
I recently retired from teaching and have purchased a lovely new Janome machine. I am feeling somewhat intimidated and am looking for inspiration. My skills have gone rusty over time, but I am eager to learn!
Love your creations, insight and helpful input that you give on Artisan square (it’s my nightly reading). I was not able to log on last night, is the sight down?
Thanks so much. SG is back up now.
