Measure, Measure, and then Measure Again

8 Jan

I just finished the Sewing Workshop Urban T-Shirt. I really like the style of it – very different for a t-shirt pattern:

That being said, I need to knock myself upside the head a few times for not paying close attention to the measurements. I have very narrow shoulders and back. I usually take the smallest size in any pattern and then do a full bust adjustment. For some reason, I “decided” I didn’t need the smallest size in this pattern, so I ended up making a small instead of an extra small. I’m swimming in it:

Lesson learned: measure, measure, and then measure again!

Also, the neckband didn’t come out the way I would like it to.

It’s all ripply and wonky. I’ve had this happen before, but I just thought that, with experience, my neckline bindings would get better. Not so!

Lesson learned: If you don’t know how to do something well, have someone who does teach you!

Kathryn, on Stitcher’s Guild, gave me this fabulous link to a Sarah Veblen tutorial on sewing neck bindings. Thank God for experienced sewing friends!
